Penryn Loft Conversion Complete! – June 2016

Back in 2014 we were approached by a Client to transform their loft into a workable office, incorporating the views east towards the Penryn River and the Carrick Roads beyond.

The client had originally envisaged a new staircase to access the office which they thought needed to be located within one of the double bedrooms. Koha Architects quickly identified the fact that this would compromise the usable space in the bedroom and suggested locating the new stair above the existing stair so that all vertical circulation was contained within one zone.

This required the demolition of a rather unsightly existing 1970’s flat roof extension and the formation of a new pitched roof dormer to provide head height for the new stair. This dormer would also provide views north towards open farmland and allow more natural light into the office and stair area.
