South Parade, Penzance

Koha Architects were appointed for the refurbishment of a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse in Penzance. To meet the client’s brief of converting the basement for use as a guest annexe, a new stair access from South Parade Mews was introduced as well as a new roof and lantern roof-light over the rear courtyard.

These interventions remove the existing damp and dingey outside well space and replace it with a usable top-lit living space that connects the basement floor of the Main House to the rear extensions/ outbuildings to make these more usable service spaces.

The design kept the large interventions to the modern rear extensions whilst previous unsympathetic modern interventions to the historic main house were removed to return the house to its original grandeur and style.
